★★★ BBC Three’s new reality competition series Go Hard or Go Home had exhausted me within the opening ten minutes. But then I suppose it did exactly what it said on the tin 🖊️ littlewondering

, the show sees eight Brits who are “lost in life” plonked on a tropical island where they are PUSHED TO THEIR LIMITS mentally and physically. Each is teamed up with a Warrior, a hyper-focused bunch of BEASTS that includes a British shotput champion, MMA megastar and celebrity yoga trainer.

In this 70-minute episode, there was a lot going on. With 16 personalities to get to know, training montages, confessionals, fly-on-the-wall footage and challenges, the actual format was somewhat buried. When the credits rolled, I was no clearer on exactly what the end goal was aside from the guarantee that neck veins will bulge almost to bursting and broken bodies will collapse on the sand.

On the first night, Demetri disclosed that he was trans. Out publicly for four years, he was on the show to tackle insecurities over not looking masculine enough. To not only see a trans person telling their own story on mainstream television but also to be applauded and hugged for doing so was exceptionally moving.
