Australia is most the developed country on Earth with trachoma, and the Melbourne Demons have resumed their efforts to beat it. But the new minister suggests the elimination of the eye disease is far from imminent.
The new federal minister responsible for Indigenous health has stopped short of backing the previous government's target to eliminate trachoma by 2025 as the pandemic continues to impact health outcomes for Indigenous Australians.
"This is going to be an absolute priority for me and I will be travelling the country to talk to those experts to see what we can do to eradicate this scourge." "There are a number of what we call hot spot communities, where the rates of trachoma are above 20 per cent," he said.
