A 59-year-old man on Queensland's Gold Coast is recovering after being shot with a homemade shotgun by an attacker who is now on the run. Police were called to a property on Tallebudgera Creek Road in Tallebudgera on Thursday afternoon following reports of gunshots. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his shoulder and head after confronting the intruder. Authorities believe the man knew his attacker, but didn't recognize him immediately due to his dishevelled appearance.
A homemade shotgun was found at the scene, but the alleged attacker fled on foot and remains unidentified. Detective Inspector Mark Mooney told reporters on Friday that the attacker was known to the victim and may have been living nearby in a tent. He could be hiding in various locations, such as a shed, under a house, or even sleeping under a tree. Mooney emphasized the danger posed by the suspect, stating that he could still be armed and has the capability to make more such weapons. Police have released a photo of a man they believe is the attacker, but warn that his appearance may have changed since the photo was taken.
