The federal government will expand access to a fund supporting public interest journalism in local communities in a bid to tackle so-called "news deserts" emerging in parts of Australia., which put forward a series of proposals on the future of a sustainable media industry, the government promised to "enhance" a $60 million package that supports regional and small publishers.

"So we'll work through that and consider what that might mean in terms of how the package is structured today and who benefits from it and whether there are ways there could be others who could be eligible under it," Mr Fletcher said.
