Health Minister Mark Butler has warned the government will prosecute illegal vape vendors as convenience stores have continued to stock the trendy e-cigarettes despite new federal laws banning sales outside of pharmacies.

Despite the hefty penalties, convenience stores and tobacconists have continued to stock and sell vapes illegally. “We’re seeing that from some of the reports from overseas countries like China as well, that exports to Australia are down markedly. “We are talking very closely with our state colleagues about how we start to work through them in a determined fashion to make sure that that part of the trade is shut down as well.The Australian Border Force has ramped up operations in recent months and seized thousands of illegal vapes across the country.

The new vaping regulations, which took effect in July 2024, have limited vape sales to pharmacies and mandated consultations with pharmacists for customers.
