Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has told Sky News the government will not be “panicked into reckless spending” by the Labor Party.
The government will not be pressured into "panicked" spending as Treasurer Josh Frydenberg lauds its disciplined approach to managing the budget. It comes after Mr Frydenberg revised down the next four years of projected budget surpluses as a slowing economy wiped $22 billion from the government’s May forecast.
Mr Frydenberg told Sky News he would not provide an “overly unrealistic” forecast, saying the government would still deliver a surplus for the first time in 12 years. “What we are doing is delivering budget surpluses and paying down the debt we inherited from the Labor Party,” he said. “What we can see from today’s mid-year economic update is that the Australian economy continues to grow.
