Mark Bailey wants Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner to explain why a creek filled without authorisation in 2002 has never been cleared.
Senior Palaszczuk government minister Mark Bailey says Brisbane City Council’s decision to ignore flood concerns in Yeronga shows “a 20-year council isn’t interested in looking at things closely”.
Local MP Mark Bailey says questions must now be asked if a ’20-year old Brisbane council ‘was no longer interested in residents’ flood concerns.Bailey, the local MP, disputed the council’s claim there was “insufficient evidence to substantiate an offence”. No approval was obtained to put in this drain and to place unauthorised fill over the top of a creek in Yeronga which causes backs up in residents homes. The industrial business operates on the filled land above the drain.“That’s pretty bad sign that a 20-year council isn’t interested in looking at things closely. They are not prioritising residents and their needs.
“For almost two decades Brisbane City Council has known about drainage problems in Yeronga West and done nothing to require remediation of the illegal drainage works,” she said.
