Greens housing spokesperson Max Chandler-Mather has criticized the Labor government's housing bill, arguing that it will worsen the affordability crisis. While he expresses willingness to negotiate with the government, Chandler-Mather warns that the current proposals will increase rents and house prices without providing relief for struggling Australians.
Greens housing spokesperson Max Chandler-Mather says Labor’s housing bill will “destroy people’s lives,” while claiming he is willing to negotiate with the government in good faith to make changes to get the proposal through the Senate. In an interview with ABC’s RN Breakfast, Chandler-Mather was asked to respond to Housing Minister Clare O’Neil’s claims that the Greens were “stonewalling” the bills in the Senate.
“Neither will give light at the end of the tunnel for the single mum right now choosing between feeding her kids or paying the rent,” Chandler-Mather said.Chandler-Mather said the Greens had indicated to the government that they “want to negotiate in good faith”, and while he accepts not all his policies will get in, the government’s bill as it stands will “destroy people’s lives”.
