In a town where unemployment is almost five times the national average, women in Halls Creek are finding much-needed solace and support as they chase their dream job.

A new economic hub in the Kimberley town of Halls Creek is providing employment opportunities for women.

The quiet, air-conditioned room is a world away from her home, filled with the voices of children and grandchildren — and offers much-needed solace.For months, she's been attending the new Women's Economic Development Hub in the Kimberley town of Halls Creek, along with 15 other jobseekers. Regardless of what their dream job is, the hub provides the jobseekers with counselling, training and $5,000 to start their own business.Hub coordinator Lee-Anne Smith says living remotely is more expensive than in the city, and locals need economic opportunities to empower themselves."It gives hope — it's all about imagining opportunities."

"You only come back with one bag, and it's $100 worth of things… one small bag," she says.Ms Smith says the hub offers a chance for the women "to get away from the grandchildren and humbugging that goes on in the community".
