The defender had been heavily linked with a switch to Ibrox having dropped down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

Outcast Harry Souttar has confessed his time at Leicester City has been "tough" as he addressed the prospect of a loan exit which didn't come to pass before deadline day.

Rangers appeared to be in the running for the Australia international who has dropped out of the Leicester side since the arrival of boss Enzo Maresca - having failed to make an appearance in a matchday squad since the opening day of the English Championship season. Reports south of the border stated that the Socceroo and the club were keen on a loan exit for the defender who arrived for £15million in January.

However, Michael Beale's side could not get a deal over the line with the Ibrox powerbrokers unable to move Ben Davies on before the window slammed shut - leaving Souttar on the fringes at the King Power Stadium. Despite his lack of minutes, Oz boss Graham Arnold has kept his faith in the 24-year-old.View gallery He was handed a start in the 2-2 friendly draw with Mexico, with the centre-back netting for his country.

He said: "It’s been tough. I think there were a lot of things mentioned in the press about going on loan. “I am a Leicester player. I’m going to do everything in my power to try to get back into the squad. Obviously it’s the manager’s decision so all I can do is work hard and try to prove to him that I can get back in the squad.”
