Finances will dictate whether a deal could be done but Rangers still believe they could get a deal over the line before Friday's deadline.
Michael Beale is a big fan of the Leicester City defender and would be keen to team him up with his brother, John, at Ibrox. Beale’s interest in the Australian World Cup star has been active for several weeks – well before initial reports surfaced, and Souttar junior would also be very much open to a loan to get back playing.
The problem will come down to whether or not Rangers can agree to the financial side of the deal with the Foxes, which would likely be a loan. Leicester bought Souttar for £15million in January but since then they have been relegated to the English Championship. New boss Enzo Maresca has come in at the King Power Stadium this summer and now Souttar has dropped down the pecking order with the Midlands side.
That has alerted Beale who has been a long-term admirer of the 24 year old. Rangers have already freed up wages by loaning Ianis Hagi to Alaves while Glen Kamara could also leave before the window with Leeds United frontrunners. Rangers could also add to their finances if they can see off PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League play-off clash in Holland this week. Several other Rangers squad players like Jon McLaughlin, Robby McCrorie and Ben Davies are also available and could also be moved on if a suitable offer comes in before this week’s deadline.
Young Leon King is another who could be allowed out on loan. The 19-year-old has interest from the English Championship and League One and the Light Blues believe a loan would aid his first-team development.
