Hawthorn star Will Day had more scans on his sternum on Monday as he and club count the cost of the brutal hit in Sunday’s win over Richmond. Day was crunched by teammate Jai Newcombe when the pair both attacked a loose ball during the Hawks’ dominant first quarter. “He’s in a lot of distress,” Campbell Brown said on Channel 7, later reporting Day was taken to hospital in need of pain relief and scans.
“Definitely , always look at the positive side and I’ll be hoping I can get back out there,” he told 7NEWS Melbourne on Monday. Day will see another specialist on Tuesday, but if surgery is required then his season will be over. It continues a frustrating run for Day, who missed the first six games of the season with a foot injury. Hawthorn won just one pf those games when Day was sidelined, but then went 11-4 with him in the 15 games before Sunday.
