'He can't even return a phone call': Anger over Laundy's radio silence auspol
Liberals are seething about the ongoing silence from high-profile MP Craig Laundy over his future, despite the widespread expectation he will quit politics just two months before the election.
Liberal candidates in the mix include former deputy police commissioner Nick Kaldas, NSW Waratahs government relations manager Natalie Baini and Pru Goward's outgoing chief-of-staff Simon Fontana.Credit:But a federal Liberal MP from NSW said the choice was redundant. "It really doesn’t matter at this point. He [Mr Laundy] hasn’t done anything and it’s too late for a candidate to make an impact," the MP said. "Everyone's over him ... he can't even return a phone call.
One friend said Mr Laundy - a moderate - was entitled to take his time to decide whether to "fight from within or let lunatics run the asylum"., including former deputy leader Julie Bishop, Jobs Minister Kelly O'Dwyer, Defence Minister Christopher Pyne, and frontbenchers Steve Ciobo and Michael Kennan.Mr Laundy quit his role as small business minister following the ousting of Mr Turnbull in August.
Other contenders include Ms Baini and Mr Fontana, both of whom sit on the executive of the Reid federal electorate conference. Mr Fontana is also on the Liberal Party's state executive.
