The father of an 11-year-old Kimberley boy in videos showing cars doing donuts and kids taking them on joy rides speaks about the reason behind the behaviour that has sparked concern for the community and the young children involved.

Jack is the father of an 11-year-old Kimberley boy and says his story started off similar to many other children in remote northern Australia.A police investigation was sparked when videos of the alleged crimes were posted on social media platforms.

Jack's son recently came into his care after a childhood typical of the Kimberley; one touched by alcohol abuse and domestic violence, all the while living in one of the most isolated places in the state. It's a rare outcome for many Kimberley kids, and Jack said a recent trend has now made him reflect on just how close his son came to falling through the cracks.

The videos sparked an operation between Broome and Derby detectives, who were tasked with investigating dozens of videos posted to social media by children referring to themselves as the 'Blood City Boys'. "There have been a couple of comments concerning vigilante action, and what we would say is leave the job of policing to the police," he said.

The Kimberley Juvenile Justice Strategy is a Labor government initiative aimed at tackling youth crime, with funding divided between night patrol groups and PCYCs.
