A lingering cyclone off Western Australia's coast is contributing to a severe heatwave expected to grip large parts of Western Australia and Queensland this week. The Bureau of Meteorology warns of 'severe' to 'extreme' heatwave conditions, with Perth and Brisbane facing temperatures up to 12 degrees Celsius higher than average. The cyclone is creating a 'traffic jam' in weather patterns, preventing cooler air from moving east and trapping hot desert winds.
