The seat at the head of NSW Labor has been left vacant after Jodi McKay delivered a teary resignation in the wake of the disastrous Upper-Hunter by-election result.
She had come under pressure after her party lost the Upper Hunter by-election and quit after a party crisis meeting. Chris Minns has made no secret of his leadership ambitions since he was elected to parliament in 2015.Mr Minns on Monday confirmed he would make a third bid for the top job, saying: "I want to be Labor leader.""I think it's time for us to turn the page and turn to a new generation of Labor leadership. I think we need fresh ideas and a different approach to politics.," he said.
He criticised NSW Labor after his resignation from the shadow cabinet, saying its "negative politics" approach wasn't resonating with the public.
