Hobart Superintendent Peggy Buffington said students remained indoors Wednesday and athletic practices would also be held indoors.Crown Point football coach Craig Buzea moved the first half of practice inside to the school’s fieldhouse for Wednesday and Thursday. Practice usually starts after school, but it was moved to 7 p.m. this week.
Players only wear shoulder pads during high-temperature practices, Buzea said, while a typical practice is full pads. Schools measure the heat index with a color code. Black is the highest heat warning, and Buzea said it’s currently in the black range.“It’s like summer planning right now,” he said. “You just have to adapt. You have to cut things back. You have to put it in perspective. Everyone is in the same boat.”
