Opposition Senate leader Simon Birmingham has reminisced about his time in parliament while delivering a touching valedictory speech after announcing his sudden retirement from politics.
In an emotional speech in the Senate on Thursday, Mr Birmingham said it was the “right time” for a new career as he reflected on his 17-year run in parliament. “Now is the right time for me, for my family, and for new career pathways. I'm excited that next year I will step into a new commercially-orientated direction."
“This year I hit the big 50, it provided course for gratitude on the wonderful time I've been fortunate to craft and reflection on the priorities that lie ahead.
