Wind gusts of more than 100km/h were recorded in the city’s west, causing damage to roofs, scaffolding and businesses.

Parts of Sydney are in clean-up mode and multiple flights have been cancelled after wild winds battered the city overnight.

The NSW SES said they have received more than 160 calls since 3am. The majority came from Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool and Penrith. Sydney’s Observatory Hill recorded 26.8 degrees at 4.30am, while Penrith reached 28 degrees at 2.41am.The Greater Sydney, Illawarra, New England, Northern Slopes and North Western regions are all under extreme fire danger on Tuesday with more than 600 firefighters on the ground.
