The hockey player is the second athlete from his sport to be chosen as the flagbearer, after former co-caption Mark Knowles had the honour four years ago.

“I think we were just talking before about how nervous we were going to be about it, we will probably just help each other out,” Ockenden told Sunrise. “But hopefully we don’t stuff up or do the wrong thing, you know sport’s the easier part is some respect.”Rachael Grinham and Eddie Ockenden talk with Sunrise.“As a squash player, the Commonwealth Games is the biggest event that we can go to, I really wasn’t expecting this at all, and I am in complete shock at the moment,” she said.
