Hopes of a temporary ceasefire in Gaza before Christmas could be one step closer after Hamas reportedly withdrew a key demand it previously made to Israel in a bid to end the conflict.
Israel has taken control of the Philadelphi and Netzarim Corridors in Gaza since the war broke out, but soldiers are set to remain temporarily in the locations under the deal. Mr Sullivan also dismissed suggestions Mr Netanyahu was waiting for President-elect Donald Trump to take office on January before accepting a deal.
