Sky News Reporter Jessica Maggio says health authorities are expecting around 5,000 people could be hospitalised with COVID-19 within the next few weeks.
“What that translates to roughly is one in ten hospital beds being occupied across Australia with a patient infected with COVID-19,” Ms Maggio said.
“That’s around four times higher than the numbers seen during that Delta wave in Spring last year – so you can understand why health authorities are quite stressed at the moment.”
