The House is expected to vote on two bills that would restore and guarantee abortion access nationwide.

The Constitution doesn’t explicitly say travel between states is a right, though the Supreme Court has said it is a right that “has been firmly established and repeatedly recognized.” Yet the court has never said exactly where the right to travel comes from and that could leave it open to challenge or elimination, as the right to an abortion was.

“The bill takes Roe v. Wade into the law of the land and protects it from some of the assaults that have occurred since it became overturned by the Supreme Court,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Thursday. At the White House Friday, President Joe Biden signed an executive order that he said would "protect our nation from the extremist agenda that is antihetical to everything we believe as Americans." University of Miami law professor Caroline Mala Corbin explains what the order can and can't do.

When pressed Thursday on whether Democrats should work with the two senators, Pelosi pushed back, “We’re not going to negotiate a woman’s right to choose."
