Analysis: When chairman Lee Hagipantelis arrived at Concord in his black Ferrari, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be any ordinary day | MichaelChammas SMHsport
As Michael Maguire ran his team through their paces hidden behind a wall of concrete beams and scaffolding at Concord Oval, the Wests Tigers directors were on the phone.
When chairman Lee Hagipantelis arrived at Concord in his black Ferrari, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be just another day. Hagipantelis strode into the club’s demountable offices for a meeting with club chief executive Justin Pascoe and director of football Tim Sheens. Meanwhile, the players had been called to a meeting. They were unaware that Maguire had left the building. He had not spoken to the players on his way out.Sheens, Pascoe and Hagipantelis addressed the group, answering questions from a squad keen to know what was next for the club.
The Tigers will take their time to work out their next move. You can be assured Cameron Ciraldo will be high on their shortlist, not that Sheens was giving much away. The Tigers believe they are embarking on a similar journey to the Panthers many years ago, when they invested in youth and relied on the development of talent from within the ranks to transform into stars. Ciraldo is only 37 years old and would become one of the youngest in NRL history if he was to take the plunge next year.
