Growing up in Barbados, Melanie McCollin-Walker used to daydream about travelling far away from the Caribbean. Now living on the other side of the world, her days exploring the Tasmanian wilderness fuel her creativity.
"I think I'm most inspired by the darker corners of Tasmania," she said.
Her daughter Aaliyah Walker says there are many 'stop the car' moments on family road trips around Tasmania. "[I'm] trying to capture the feeling of it so when I come back to the studio I can put that feeling onto the canvas," she said. "I can see that she's incorporated the light that she took from one spot and the composition from another, and the colours from another," Aaliyah said.
