With another week of rain in Sydney, already-soaked properties will be tested to their limits, as buildings start to leak that have never leaked before. Here’s what’s in store.
Both new and old apartment buildings have mould and water ingress issues after Sydney’s unusually rainy year.Apartment dwellers have had waterproofing work done because of the rain.Saturated Sydney apartment blocks will be tested during another week of rain, as buildings that have never leaked before start to leak.
“The outcome is owners and tenants who are rightly frustrated. The massive amount of rainfall has exacerbated many maintenance issues to the point of causing long-term damage to the property,” Duggan said. That is only expected to get worse in the coming days, said Duggan, who asked for patience from the strata sector.“Everyone’s water ingress is a priority but with limited capacity everyone needs to work together until the rain passes … and there has been a massive increase in insurance claims due to these water events, and they slow down rectification.”
He said while most buildings can cope with a certain amount of rain, many buildings are now saturated and water paths established.
