Most Sydneysiders will be relishing the chance to celebrate with family in person this Christmas. Life in lockdown has had many downsides, especially for those who faced harsh restrictions. But one of the biggest was being cut off from family and friends.Appointing a moderator can help make your virtual Christmas a success.But not all families will be so fortunate. Many still have loved ones overseas or interstate.
WFH has taught us many things, including a useful list of dos and don’ts about interacting virtually. Keep your camera on. Give virtual applause. Use the chat function. But don’t share your private chat thoughts with the entire group. Don’t forget to unmute. And definitely do not undress with your video on.
Step 2: Make sure that everyone brings their beverage of choice to the call. Eating is problematic on zoom. Drinking works just fine.Step 3: Ask everyone to tell the group something about themselves – say the highs and lows of 2021, or their best and worst Christmas, or Christmas gift of all time.Step 4: Pick a shared topic to speculate on – and make sure it is tailored to the audience, and likely to produce strong but not enduring disagreement.
Some families might even consider debating whether Scott Morrison will survive the next election, or Donald Trump follow through on his threat to return to the fray in 2024.
