We don’t need to hear the latest inflation figure to know the cost of living has gone up. It seems like every single item on supermarket shelves has increased - some by a lot more than the inflation rate - making the cost of the weekly grocery shop even more expensive.

A quick scan of your grocery bill will reveal you probably spend the most money on the protein base to any meal: meat, chicken, fish, costing at least $10 if not closer to $20 to feed a family of four a relatively small serve of protein. For example, if you already have tinned tomatoes and some kidney beans, it makes sense to cook a chili con carne or minestrone soup that week; or if you have stir-fry sauce and mixed vegetables, a stir-fry.
