Labor Senator Kristina Keneally has said she is 'disgusted' with John Howard's support of Cardinal George Pell, condemning his comments as 'disappointing' and 'flabbergasting'.
Mr Howard has been criticised after writing a character reference for George Pell, after the Cardinal was convicted of five counts of historical child sexual abuse. The former prime minister described the Cardinal, who has denied the charges and has launched an appeal, as being of 'high intelligence and exemplary character'. Ms Keneally has told Sky News that Mr Howard's decision is a 'kick in the guts' for victims.
