More than 10 per cent of the state's national parks have been burned during the fire season, with a large chunk of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area impacted.
The Ruined Castle Fire burns under strong westerly winds in front of Mount Solitary at Echo Point in Katoomba.The damage has been mostly due to the Gospers Mountain fire which began in November. That alone has ripped through more than 225,000 hectares of land. World Heritage areas affected by separate fires include the Echo Point lookout, which overlooks the Three Sisters, the Kanangra-Boyd National Park and Howes Trail.
The fire has been contained near Pitts Ampitheatre, in the western end of Jamison Valley near The Three Sisters. The Rural Fire Service said it's a very remote and rugged area, making firefighting efforts more difficult.
