Victorian public service investigators have been handed rare search, seize and entry powers as part of an ongoing campaign to block climbers in the Grampians from accessing parts of the national park under Aboriginal cultural heritage laws.
Rock climbing, walking, and camping were banned in large parts of the Grampians in 2019 to respect the Aboriginal cultural heritage of the region.
Parks Victoria has since shut down huge parts of the national park – once a world-renowned climbing site – to protect Aboriginal rock art and other cultural artefacts.
