Experts are investigating how the whale became trapped.
A boat and crew were deployed to help NSW National Parks and Wildlife experts free the whale at about 8am.
Footage taken by Marine Rescue NSW showed the rescue effort and the dramatic moments the humpback whale breaches from the ocean after it was freed at about 11am.The humpback whale was freed by Marine Rescue NSW volunteers and National Parks and Wildlife experts. "Marine Rescue NSW crews train with NPWS across the state for these situations and today's result is a wonderful outcome," Acting Northern Zone Commander Murray said.Starting around June, tens of thousands of humpbacks migrate up Australia's east coast from Antarctica to warmer waters.
