‘I feel like I’ve had half a fight — it was boring’: Inside the Kambosos dressing-room | Andrew Webster
Here, inside the dressing-room beneath Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, George Kambosos jnr can hear the natives and they are restless.
For 12 rounds, Haney’s jabs came at Kambosos like an angry cobra, back and forth, back and forth, slowly turning Kambosos’ nose bright red, then eventually puffing his right eye, then the left.In the end, Kambosos’ face looked like a kitchen floor covered in scuff marks while Haney’s face looked relatively unscathed.
In the dressing-room afterwards, however, Kambosos was critical of referee Panamanian referee Hector Afu. “It’s been a long time,” he said. “But how can I feel sad when the guy didn’t want to fight? It wasn’t like I got beat up. I’m not hurt at all. I feel like I’ve had half a fight — it was boring.”George Kambosos heads to the ring on Sunday.“That’s not what the contract says,” Kambosos grinned in the room afterwards.“I’d fight tomorrow if I could,” he said.
Kambosos was putting on a brave face but you could tell he was hurting. He fights for the right reasons. He’s not about pay days but titles.
