Brandon Smith’s sin-binning - and run-in with the Cronulla crowd - compounded a miserable night for the Storm after the Sharks’ first-half onslaught.
Brandon Smith says he let himself and his teammates down after giving referee Adam Gee a verbal lashing on a forgettable night for the Melbourne Storm, vowing to be better as he comes under scrutiny from the NRL.
Smith sought out Gee after the game to apologise as NRL officials investigate what was said in the on-field blow-up that saw the Storm star sin-binned while his team had the ball. A furious Smith was given his marching orders after saying something to Gee, convinced he should have earned a penalty on the previous play.
But perhaps the NRL premiership race isn’t as closed off as it seems after a Braydon Trindall-inspired Sharks outfit ran riot against Melbourne even without playmaker Nicho Hynes calling the shots.
