As UK PM Boris Johnson makes another appeal to voters to stick with him, Tony Abbott lent his views on the British election

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has guaranteed that immigration levels will be cut should he win Thursday's general election, as Tony Abbott warns a Jeremy Corbyn victory would be a "disaster" that crushes the United Kingdom's economy.

"I'm not hostile to immigration, I'm a believer in allowing people to come to this country if they have talents and what to make their lives in the UK and contribute to our country, fantastic, we are going to benefit from that," Johnson said in a fresh pitch to Brexit supporters during the final days of the election campaign."What we want to do is bear down on migration, particularly of unskilled workers who have no job to come to.

"A Corbyn Labour victory would not only be a disaster for Britain; it would also be a shocking setback for the wider world which has always looked to this country for inspiration: as home to the mother of Parliaments, the common law, the industrial revolution and the most widely played sport on the globe; and as the saviour of Europe from the Nazi menace," Abbott wrote in the UKFormer prime minister Tony Abbott says a Jeremy Corbyn win would damage the British economy.

Four opinion polls published at the weekend put the lead of Johnson's Conservative Party over Labour at between eight and 15 points.
