An Indigenous woman found dead in custody yesterday appears to have died from natural causes, say Queensland police. 9News

She had been remanded in custody on property and drugs charges on Monday and was awaiting transfer to another facility.

Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd has expressed his condolences for the loved ones of an Indigenous woman who died in police custody in Brisbane. Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd said the transfer process could take up to 10 days, meaning the woman's length of time in the watchhouse was not abnormal.

It is understood she suffered underlying medical conditions, but Mr Codd said he was not aware if she had asked for medical treatment."We're very much looking forward to any insight they can provide," Mr Codd said.
