The recent increase in flies has taken social media by storm, with hundreds of videos documenting people swatting them away, from Bondi in Sydney's east to Riverwood in the city's southwest.

Sydneysiders are becoming irritated by an increase in flies swarming around the city brought on by unseasonably warm winter temperatures. "Biting flies like horse flies and mosquitos are actually attracted to the CO2 in our breath, so if you're exercising a lot more the biting flies will be attracted to you," Lessard said.
While they may be annoying, the insects are some of the most important pollinators in our ecosystem, contributing to the growth of dozens of fruits and veggies, including mangos, avocados and cacao.
