A dozen first responders have suffered smoke inhalation after a fire at one of Australia's largest detention centres forced multiple inmates to break windows and leap from the roof to safety.
It is understood about five inmates were forced to throw their mattresses out of windows before leaping out from the second floor to escape the fire.
A New South Wales Fire and Rescue spokesperson said a call came in at 11:22pm about a blaze, with witnesses reportedly seeing black smoke billowing into the sky.NSW Police and paramedics are also in attendance.A fire has broken out at Villawood Detention Centre in Sydney on Thursday, with reports a dozen first responders have suffered smoke inhalation.
