The naming of a man wanted after a baby had hot coffee poured on him in a Brisbane park by Chinese media is feared to have jeopardised the international manhunt. A Chinese-language news article being circulated online purports to have identified the man shown in CCTV footage released by Queensland police after the August 27 incident in Stones Corner. He is yet to be taken into custody. On Thursday, Queensland police advised media that no further information about the investigation was available.

It’s understood police are concerned the release of information identifying the man may compromise efforts in finding him. Investigators believe the man fled overseas. The parents of the 10-month-old boy, who continues to recover from his burns to his face and chest, have not commented on the development. They previously said they wanted more assurance from police that investigations were “on the right track, and is going to get caught”.
