An Interpol alert is in place for a Brazilian man believed to have left a fellow countryman for dead when the pair were scuba diving during an alleged attempt to retrieve cocaine from a ship.

An Interpol alert has been issued for a Brazilian man believed to have been a second diver who left a fellow countryman for dead, while the two were allegedly attempting to retrieve a cocaine haul from a ship in Newcastle.About 50 kilograms worth of cocaine was found nearby.

NSW Police believe Mr Borges did not act alone and are alleging another Brazilian man, Jhoni Fernandes Da Silva, 32, was a second diver on the mission.Police have previously reached out to Australia's Brazilian community, amid fears someone is harbouring Mr Da Silva.More to come.
