Despite Instagram's policies against explicit content, the ABC has uncovered dozens of accounts on the platform — each with hundreds of followers — sharing images and videos of dogs being sexually exploited as well as other types of animal cruelty.
Accounts depicting "horrific" content involving bestiality and animal cruelty are being left to thrive and amass followers on Instagram .
"A couple of years ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I came across some absolutely horrific user handles that were showing forms of bestiality, torture rape of animals," she said.Sally said she had since found "thousands of accounts" sharing disturbing content, many of which she had reported to Instagram directly.
After being approached by the ABC, Instagram deleted four accounts it had been shown which were sharing disturbing content. Ms Grant encouraged people to first report the material to the platform they found it on, but said if that was unsuccessful Australians could then send it to eSafety which had a "high success rate" removing class 1 illegal content.
