Police remain on the scene of a residential fire east of Brisbane that killed an eight-year-old girl, with fears held for a woman in her 30s who remains missing.
The fire broke out on Bayside Court in the Redlands suburb of Thorneside at around 7am yesterday, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze about an hour later.
The remains of the eight-year-old were found yesterday morning and police fear the missing woman is also dead. Chief Inspector Karl Hahne said authorities "have a strong belief that person is also in the fire scene", but authorities are yet to make a formal announcement.A crime scene has been established and authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
Another person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and townhouses on either side of the property were damaged.
