Staines Memorial College at Redbank Plains will likely remain closed for two weeks after a senior student tests positive to coronavirus as new gathering restrictions begin at the Darling Downs.

The Fig Tree Pocket Early Childhood Centre and Preschool will be shut for at least a week after a person infected with coronavirus attended on August 21.

Even those who test negative are required to quarantine until midnight on Friday to complete the mandatory two-week quarantine. It was not revealed whether the infected person was a child, educator or parent, however Metro North said the person who tested positive was at the lower end of being a risk on the day they attended the centre because it was two days before they showed any symptoms.

Queensland Health announced on the weekend that Goondiwindi, South Burnett, Southern and Western Downs and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire would join Toowoomba with restrictions on gatherings from 8:00am today.
