prison, faces cruel conditions including "overcrowding, inadequate food, insect infestation and poor ventilation", advocates warned.
Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, a Melbourne University academic specialising in Islamic studies, was imprisoned in Iran in October 2018. "We are striking not only to demand our immediate freedom, but to ask for justice for the countless, thousands, unnamed yet not forgotten men and women who have suffered the same fate as ours or worse, and have been imprisoned in Iran, having committed no crime."University colleagues have described Dr Moore-Gilbert, who has taught and conducted research at a range of academic institutions, as "lovely", "competent" and as having a strong sense of justice.
Amnesty International Australia campaigns manager Tim O'Connor said the human rights organisation had long received reports from Evin prison of solitary confinement lasting weeks and or interrogations lasting hours.
