Israel’s Ambassador to Australia Amir Maimon has said Israel does not want to kill the Palestinian people in his National Press Club address.
“It is also very important to understand that you don’t measure … the adherence of a nation to international law by the toll of casualties on the other side; you measure it by its compliance to the law, by its determination to avoid, as Israel is doing, harming innocent Palestinians,” Mr Maimon said.
“I can tell you first-hand that this is one of the most important values that we train our soldiers.” Since October 7, Hamas has fired more than 7,500 missiles at Israel, aiming to “kill people, innocent civilians,” Mr Maimon told the National Press Club. “We are lucky to have our missile defence Iron Dome system which intercepted the majority of the attacking missiles, but can you ask yourself what would have happened if we didn’t have this missile defence? So, we are blamed for better defending our people?”
