Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has urged travellers entering Queensland via road to exercise their patience as she warned authorities are “expecting a lot of delay” as families and friends are reunited ahead of Christmas.

Ms Palaszczuk on Monday announced fully vaccinated travellers from COVID-19 hotspots will be welcomed back into the Sunshine State from 1am on December 13 - either by road or air - without having to undergo 14 days of quarantine.

“But honestly, this is about a process of having your border pass, having your negative PCR test, having your patience and being able to come across into Queensland and trust me the wait will be worth it,” she said. “And there’s more time as well. People should spread out their travel times and think about it and plan before they come,” she reiterated. All arrivals from domestic hotspots are then required to go for another COVID-19 test on day five. The Queensland Premier was able to confirm the December 13 date as the state prepares to hit 80 per cent double-dose vaccination coverage this week.
