New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has won the country’s election to serve a second term, addressing the party faithful and vowing the Labour Party will govern "for every New Zealander”. “Governing for every New Zealander has never been so important,” Ms Ardern said.
“Now more than every is the time to keep going, to keep working, to grab hold of the opportunities that lay in front of us, so let’s step forward together.” Sky News New Zealand correspondent Jackson Williams said, “this is the best result for the Labour Party in 50 years”. “The big question heading into this election was if Labour would be capable of earning enough votes to be able to govern alone, they’ve well and truly done that," he said.
