World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner has been suspended for three months after testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol. The Italian athlete will be eligible to compete in the French Open following a settlement with WADA, who accepted Sinner's explanation that the contamination was accidental.
Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1 male tennis player, has been banned from the sport for three months following a doping case. The Italian player, who tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol at the Australian Open last month, will now be suspended until May 4th. Despite this, he will be eligible to compete in the French Open , the next Grand Slam tournament, which begins on May 19th at Roland Garros.
\The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) initially investigated the case, concluding that Sinner's positive test was likely due to accidental contamination. The agency accepted Sinner's explanation that trace amounts of clostebol in his sample were a result of a massage from a trainer who used the substance after cutting his own finger. However, WADA emphasized that athletes are ultimately responsible for the negligence of their entourage. \As a result of the settlement, WADA has formally withdrawn its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), avoiding a lengthy legal battle. Sinner expressed relief at the resolution, stating that the case had been hanging over him for nearly a year. He acknowledged his responsibility for his team's actions and accepted WADA's offer to settle based on a three-month suspension. Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, hailed the settlement as a demonstration of Sinner's innocence and declared that all of Italy will welcome him back at the Italian Open.
