West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern has been cleared of any lung damage or internal bleeding after his heavy collision against Collingwood on Sunday, according to 7NEWS Perth’s Ryan Daniels. McGovern flew for a mark in the second term and landed on his arm, which dug into his ribs on impact with the ground. He immediately left the ground in clear pain but put on a brave face to get back out there.

The 2018 premiership hero tried to take the field to begin the last quarter but lasted only a couple of minutes before heading for the bench. He was taken down into the rooms where doctors realised he needed more urgent attention and sent him to hospital. But Daniels said McGovern wasn’t held over in Melbourne. “The West Coast Eagles defender was able to fly back to Perth with teammates last night,” Daniels said. “Potentially got away with bruised ribs, but club still assessing damage.
