Airlie Beach locals have helped more than 100 travellers who were left stranded after Jetstar cancelled a flight at the last minute.
Another traveller who was left stranded in Airlie Beach without accommodation said the local community helped the passengers by offering food and beds to limit the number of people forced to sleep in the gym.
“They just wanted to be dry for the night. They were just grateful they had shelter for the night, otherwise they really had nowhere to go,” he said. The spokesperson also revealed an engineering issue had forced the flight to be cancelled before bad weather meant a replacement flight could not be organised.
“As a result, a local community centre was used to provide accommodation for those who needed it. We send our sincere thanks to the local community in Airlie Beach for their support overnight.”
